My research focuses on the interplay of (anti)blackness, Islamophobia and racialized surveillance—digital and otherwise— within Somali diasporic life. I’m particularly interested in understanding how the liminality of the Somali transnational body makes global regimes of racialized surveillance more legible. My work interrogates the facticity and ontological territories of blackness within the Somali diaspora to illustrate how (anti)blackness structures the material and discursive infrastructures of islamophobia and global assemblages of racialized surveillance.
