Launched in 2021, the Black Studies Collaboratory (BSC) brought together artists, activists, and scholars to amplify the interdisciplinary, political, and world-building work of Black Studies (Mellon Foundation, 2021-2023). Organized around the themes of archives, activism, and the arts, the BSC consisted of five main programs: the Abolition Democracy Fellows Program, the Global Black Feminisms Summer Lab, the Small Grants Program, the Black Studies Open University, and the Black Futures Retreat, lead by the BSC project team:
- Leigh Raiford, Inaugural Director and Co-PI
- Tianna Paschel, Co-PI
- Barbara Montano, Project Manager
In 2024, the Black Studies Collaboratory received an expoloratory grant from the San Francisco Foundation to shape the next phase of our work. The program continues with a focus on our community partnerships and building the future of the BSC.
