The Erskine A. Peters Reading Room is a Department of African American Studies community-centered study space for students. We welcome you to join us during our open hours for a chill space to study, work, make friends, and hang out in the department. We also host events throughout the year such as study jams, movie screenings, and talks. See our events page for a full list of events and sign up for our newsletter to stay up-to-date.
The Reading Room also houses the Department’s archive, and we invite you to explore our digital collection with California Revealed, which includes talks, lectures, roundtables, symposium materials, and other treats from the department’s long and storied history. Sifting through the memorabilia and ephemera of the department’s past is indeed a pleasure, and we encourage you to come and explore our exhibits of these archival materials. If you have access needs related to the archive, please contact Barbara Montano at bmontano14@berkeley.edu or 510-664-4324.
While in the room, we ask everyone to collectively care for the space, be mindful of how you leave it, and follow the use of space policy.
