Irene is a writer, director, and curator exploring how artists fashion a poetics of Black sociality. A recent graduate of Columbia University’s MA program in African American and African Diaspora Studies (2023) and Princeton University’s undergraduate program in African American Studies (2020), Irene is a doctoral student at U.C. Berkeley, with a focus in African American Studies, Film Studies, and Theater and Performance. Disciplinary engagements range from contemporary Afro-surrealism, Visual Poetics, Media Studies, Political Theory, and Black Feminist Geographies – to beloved thriller and comedy classics, and the stylings that mark each genre.
Recent independent projects include writing, directing, producing, and acting in her debut feature film, Superposition (2022-2024), curating an exhibition at Bill Hodges Gallery in Chelsea, NYC: “Black Aliveness,” and writing a series of film meditations and manuscripts.
