Lecturer

Dr. David Kyeu earned his Ph.D. in African Languages and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His M.A. and Bed degrees in Swahili Studies are from Egerton University. Prior to joining UC-Berkeley, Dr. Kyeu taught Swahili as a foreign language at the University of Florida, Brown University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Kyeu also taught Swahili culture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Here at UC-Berkeley, he teaches Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Swahili courses. Dr. Kyeu teaches intensive elementary Swahili during the summer as well. Besides teaching, Dr. David Kyeu is also in-charge of administering Placement and Proficiency Tests for Swahili language. Dr. Kyeu is a past recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, Swedish International Development Agency fellowship and the University of Wisconsin Academic Initiative Award. He is board member of the Global Association of Promoting Swahili (GAPS) and an active member of ALTA and NCOLCTL.
