Join the Department of African American Studies (AAS) for a talk with labor activist Clarence Thomas Jr., organized by AAS Lecturer Rickey Vincent. The retired Thomas was a member Local IWLU Local 10, an influential union based in San Francisco. The ILWU Local 10 sparked the “Bay Area Free South Africa Movement” when they risked their careers by refusing to unload South African cargo in 1984.

Retired since 2015, Thomas has published, Mobilizing in Our Own Name: Million Worker March, which documents decades of ILWU-backed protests, written by the activists and workers behind the actions.
