554 Social Sciences Building, Barbara Christian Conference Room
Join the Department of African American Studies (AAS) for a talk with anti-apartheid activist and singer/songwriter Andrea Prichett, organized by AAS Lecturer Rickey Vincent.
Andrea Prichett is an accomplished singer/songwriter, who practices what she preaches. When she is not making music, Andrea is a middle school teacher in Berkeley, an organizer with Berkeley Copwatch, and a founding member of the national Copwatch movement that has been working for over 30 years to stop police misconduct. As a longtime community activist, Andrea’s music reflects political concerns around justice, police brutality, homelessness and all the other ills associated with a militarized and oligarchical state.
In the 1980s Andrea was involved in the UC Berkeley Anti-Apartheid Movement, as a leading member of the Campaign Against Apartheid, which spearheaded the successful effort to get the UC Regents to announce “Divestment” from companies doing business in Apartheid South Africa.
You can learn more about her work on her website, at Berkeley Copwatch, or on the Freight and Salvage website.
