Jasminder originally hails from Singapore and is currently a Phd candidate in African Diaspora Studies. She completed her B.Sc. in Sociology & Women's Studies at the University of Manchester, UK and her Master's degree in African American Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on looking at stark visualizations of abjection through the lens of high-fashion photography - a place where tropes of abjection are often glamorized, even celebrated, and used for affect. Her dissertation focuses on unraveling the crossings between the fields of Visual Culture, Diaspora, and Queer Theory.
