Essence Harden

Essence Harden M.A UC Berkeley Essence graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History from UC Berkeley in 2011. She received her Master of Arts from the department of African American Studies at UC Berkeley in 2013 and is currently working on her prospectus in African Diaspora Studies. Her dissertation queries the production of black masculinity via hairstyling practices in the post-Black Power period. Essence is also a mixed media artist whose work has been featured at YBCA, The Diaspora, and SOMArts (2016). She currently resides in Los Angeles and makes biscuits.
